Baby & Me (1.5-2.5 yrs accompanied by an adult) and Tiny Tots (3-4 yrs) dance classes at Ava Dance Centre introduce young children to the fundamentals of Ballet and Jazz technique in a fun, nurturing environment.
These engaging classes are designed to assist the development of gross motor
skills, co-ordination and musical awareness. Students will also benefit
beyond dance, learning skills such as taking turns, following instruction
and retaining basic choreography.
Our classes include fun story-telling activities and imaginative sequences
that will foster students' creative development and encourage self-expression.
Ava Dance Centre will give your child the best introduction to dance and
create a solid platform for their social and physical growth and wellbeing.
Ballet is the foundation of all dance forms. It develops correct posture,
co-ordination and teaches students discipline and poise. The strength and
control learned in ballet is a valuable asset to any dance style and provides
students with a strong technique.
Ava Dance Centre follows the internationally recognised Royal Academy of Dance
(RAD) syllabus. The RAD is one of the largest and most influential dance education
and training organisations in the world.
Jazz is a fun, high-energy class that enhances strength, flexibility
and endurance. Classes include a cardio warm up, stretching and strengthening
exercise, travelling combinations and conclude with learning an upbeat routine.
Students will achieve more out of their jazz class if they are also enrolled in ballet.
The careful training in ballet will enable students to excel in their jazz technique.
Contemporary dance is a creative combination of technique and interpretation.
Contemporary dance is characterised through the use of the torso and gravity
to explore the body’s range of movement and create abstract shapes. Contemporary
dance encourages self-expression, improvisation and personal interpretation.
To build the necessary foundations for contemporary dance, it is highly recommended
that students are also enrolled in a ballet class.
Lyrical is an emotive style of dance that draws on both ballet and jazz technique.
Lyrical can also be described as a slower, more expressive form of jazz often
performed to ballad style music.
Like contemporary, Lyrical relies heavily on ballet technique therefore, students
will progress in their Lyrical class if they are also taking a ballet class.
Hip-hop dance refers to street dance styles primarily performed to hip-hop music or that have evolved as part of hip-hop culture.
Our stretch class is purely focused on stretching to increase the necessary flexibility required for all dance styles. The class is made up on both dynamic and static stretches in a safe and gentle manner.
Turns and Leaps class involves conditioning/strengthening exercises and technique drills to help achieve the turns and leaps required in Jazz and Lyrical. This class is available for students aged 7 years+.
Acro or Acro Dance blends dance technique and acrobatics. To achieve acro tricks such as handstands, cartwheels, walkovers and aerials, students must also develop a good foundation of flexibility, strength and balance therefore classes also include stretching and strengthening exercises.
Tap dance is characterized by using the sounds of tap shoes striking the floor as a form of percussion. The sound is made by shoes that have metal plates on the heel and toe.
Ava Dance Centre offers private lessons for students who wish to improve their technique or work towards solo performances. The careful one on one training tailored to the needs of the individual will see great improvement in the students' dance ability and confidence.
